The score was 40-25 well into the fourth quarter, and it all but appeared that the Ravens were going to skate to an easy win. However, Josh Allen and the Bills mounted a comeback and won a last-second field goal.
Despite the Ravens being an AFC playoff favorite, losing big games to rivals like the Bills could come back to haunt them. In fact, Baltimore has received a stern warning on closing out big games from former All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson.
Peterson spoke about the dangers the Ravens could face by dropping big games to their rivals, especially come January when it truly matters.
"Throughout Lamar Jackson's career, since he's been there, they have yet to close out the moment when the moment has arrived," Peterson stated.
Peterson also pointed to the costly fumble that Derrick Henry committed with three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
"The Baltimore Ravens have to find a way to start closing out these games because they're gonna need these wins come January and February," he added.
It is only Week 1, so nobody should be panicking about the Ravens being beaten by a strong AFC adversary like the Bills. The issue is the team dropping such a huge lead.
Baltimore has run into issues like this in the playoffs, not being able to close things out while they are ahead. It is a pattern that has led to the team not making the Super Bowl with Jackson under center.
The Ravens will need to watch film and determine what occurred that led to them losing a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter. For now, the team can recoup and be ready to take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 2.
