NBA star’s sister killed in shooting

Toraya Reid, the sister of Minnesota Timberwolves star Naz Reid, was shot and killed Saturday morning in New Jersey, authorities said. She was 28.

Toraya was found by authorities deceased with multiple gunshot wounds laying near the exit of an apartment complex, according to a news release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police have identified Shaquille Green, who authorities said had been in a dating relationship with Toraya, as the suspect in her death. He was taken into custody after responding police officers saw him running from the scene.

Green, 29, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to OCPO. He is currently being held without bail in Ocean County Jail.

Toraya was the older sister of Naz, 26, a six-year NBA veteran for the Timberwolves. Naz won the 2024-24 NBA Sixth Man of the Year award, and finished fifth in voting for the same award last season.

For his career, Naz is averaging 11.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 20.9 minutes across 406 games.
