Jones completed 22 of 29 passes for 272 yards, threw one touchdown, ran for two more, and averaged 9.4 yards per attempt. He connected on all three deep shots, consistently converted third and fourth downs, and avoided mistakes against a Dolphins defense that blitzed often.
But what stood out most was Jones command at the line of scrimmage. On a critical fourth and two before halftime, Jones recognized Miami’s defensive look, shifted his receivers, and hit Josh Downs for a chain moving completion.Shane Steichen praised those checks after the game, calling them the “game within the game” that kept the Colts ahead of the Dolphins at every turn.

And there’s a bigger question to ask: Could this version of the Colts actually be a playoff contender? The AFC South looks winnable, especially with theTitans,Jaguars, andTexans still searching for consistency. If the offense continues to hum like this, Indianapolis doesn’t just have a bridge quarterback. They have a veteran capable of guiding them into January football.
Of course, one game doesn’t erase years of inconsistency. Jones still carries the baggage of his Giants tenure, and the Dolphins may prove to be a weak measuring stick. Week 2 against theBroncos will be the real challenge.
