There wasn’t much to gripe about for the Green Bay Packers in their lopsided victory over the Detroit Lions in Sunday’s season opener.
The Packers were the superior team from the jump and rarely led by fewer than two scores on the way to a 27-13 final score at Lambeau Field.
It broke Detroit’s streak of three straight victories on the Packers’ home field and it appeared recent success has encouraged more Lions fans to make the trip across Lake Michigan to support their team.
Their presence was felt as plenty of Honolulu Blue filled in among the crowds of dark green and gold.
It was noticeable enough that Packers coach Matt LaFleur made a comment in his postgame press conference about how all the Detroit fans got their tickets.
“The fans that showed up brought great energy,” LaFleur said. “And the fans that sold their tickets to all those Lions fans gotta be better.”
All the Detroit-friendly support wasn’t enough to push the Lions to a victory and the Packers crowd certainly got into the game as their side took an early lead.
The crowd noise got to its peak late in the second half when recently acquired All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons notched his first sack as a Green Bay Packer, bringing quarterback Jared Goff down to massive applause.
The Lions will hope to avoid an 0-2 start to the season when they host the Chicago Bears in their home opener on Sunday.
