Toraya Reid, the older sister of Minnesota Timberwolves star Naz Reid, was murdered by her boyfriend in New Jersey on Saturday, according to police.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a statement that Toraya was shot and killed outside of an apartment complex in Jackson Township, New Jersey over the weekend.
Shaquille Green, who was reportedly in a relationship with Toraya Reid, has been charged with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
According to the release, at 11 a.m. on Saturday officers received a 911 call about shots being fired and there being an unresponsive female in the roadway at the Paragon Apartment Complex.
Officers arrived to find a woman, later identified as 28-year-old Toraya Reid, dead.
Billhimer‘s statement says that Shaquille Green was seen running down the road by police and was arrested and taken to Jackson Township Police Headquarters following an investigation.
Naz Reid, who is a New Jersey native, just completed his sixth season in the NBA after starring at LSU during his college career.
The 6-foot-9 center averaged a career-high 14.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game this past season.
Reid agreed to a five-year, $125-million deal to remain with the Timberwolves this summer. He was named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award winner in 2024.
