EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields diced up the Steelers’ defense in what was one of his best games in the NFL. He went 16 of 22 for 218 yards and a touchdown while adding 48 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground.
So, despite the loss, what did Fields think about facing his homer team? He knows the players the Steelers added on defense, players like Darius Slay and Jalen Ramsey, and came out happy with his performance.
"I’m just calling it what it is. They acquired all these guys in the offseason — future Hall of Famers on that side of the ball — and we put up 32,” Fields said.
Fields left the Steelers this offseason after the Jets gave him a two-year offer and named him the starting quarterback. The Steelers, meanwhile, waited for Aaron Rodgers, who also dotted up his former teammates.
The Steelers put together a competitive offer for Fields, but it was ultimately not better than the offer the Jets threw at Fields. Pittsburgh instead landed Rodgers, who went on to throw four touchdowns and win in a duel.
Pittsburgh has a lot to clean up defensively after allowing nearly 400 total yards of offense, but the Steelers’ offensive side of the football looked dynamic and something that could be a strength for the team this year rather than a slog.
