Peter Bankes might be well advised to trust his initial judgement as he returns to Bournemouth for the [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/) game.
The Merseyside-based official has been handed the middle for the South Coast tussle at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
It will be his fourth match of the campaign and he has yet to send a player off.
The last time he produced his red card was in April, when Evanilson was dismissed with his Bournemouth side leading Manchester United 1-0.
Bankes showed yellow for a collision between the Cherries forward and Noussair Mazraoui but changed his mind after being sent to the monitor.
United went on to equalise in the 90th minute to deal a blow to the home side’s push for Europe.
The red was later rescinded although it still shows up on Bankes’ record as one of three he showed in 31 fixtures.
He also dismissed Marc Cucurella in a Chelsea v Brentford fixture.
Bankes produced yellow 121 times at almost four per match last term but his average has dipped so far this season with ten bookings in three fixtures.
His most recent game was the 0-0 draw between Leeds and Newcastle and he also refereed Manchester City’s home defeat by Tottenham.
Albion last saw him with the whistle on the day they exited the FA Cup after a shoot-out with Nottingham Forest.
He reffed the Seagulls’ wins at Manchester United and Newcastle last season.
Paul Howard, an EFL referee who has a VAR role with the Premier League, will assist Bankes from Stockley Park.
The full officiating team for Bournemouth v Albion is as follows.
Referee: Peter Bankes. Assistants: Eddie Smart, Mat Wilkes. Fourth official: Steve Martin. VAR: Paul Howard. Assistant VAR: Akil Howson.
