**Newcastle United already have two representatives in the Premier League Hall of Fame, with former Number 9 Alan Shearer being the first player to be bestowed the honour.**
The Newcastle hero is still the Premier League's all-time leading goal scorer, so it only seemed right that Shearer would be the first man to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Newcastle's second representative is another former Number 9, as Andy Cole joined Alan Shearer a couple of years later as an inductee.
Now, Sky Sports have revealed the 15-man shortlist for the next two inductees, and on it are two more Newcastle strikers who sit at polar opposites of the popularity scale on Tyneside.

Sir Les Ferdinand is in contention for a spot in the Premier League Hall of Fame
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another man who wore the famous number nine, 'Sir' Les Ferdinand, is on the shortlist. Sir Les is still adored on Tyneside, being the last man to wear the famous Number 9 before Alan Shearer made history in the shirt.
Ferdinand graciously vacated the number 9 to let local hero Alan Shearer take over, and a deadly partnership was formed before Sir Les was sold to Tottenham in a move that neither he nor the fans wanted.
Sir Les made 84 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 50 goals and providing 15 assists. He was a phenomenal attacker known for his outstanding ability in the air. I never quite got over us selling him, and many fans still wonder what could have been with that partnership of Les Ferdinand and Alan Shearer if it had been given more than one season to flourish.
Michael Owen is also on the shortlist
-------------------------------------
Michael Owen has also been nominated this time around, but we doubt his time at Newcastle was much of a factor in that decision, although he did manage 30 goals in 79 games in the black and white.
Owen made it perfectly clear that he didn't want to move to Newcastle, and as much as we've given Alexander Isak a hard time over the way he forced his move away from the club, at least he didn't get his team to knock up brochures to send to other clubs to lay out his talents in print.
Other nominees on this year's list include Gary Neville and Teddy Sheringham, who enjoyed a lethal partnership with Alan Shearer for England.
We'd love to see Sir Les make the cut, but there's some strong competition. We know Michael Owen will end up on there at some point because, as much as we hate to admit how good he was, he had the world at his feet at Liverpool. Fingers crossed for Sir Les.
