Mind-blowing Wembanyama stat proves sky's the limit for the Spurs

The preseason can't get here soon enough for San Antonio Spurs fans eager to see superstar Victor [Wembanyama back in action](https://airalamo.com/espn-reporter-says-quiet-part-out-loud-about-spurs-around-victor-wembanyama). He hasn't played a game in nearly seven months, and there is a lot riding on him having a strong season.

Fortunately, his short stint with the Spurs has already made a huge impact. Wembanyama has only played 110 career games thus far. Nevertheless, he has already been dominant historically, with him [ranking third in all-time Spurs P.E.R.](https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/SAS/leaders_career.html) behind David Robinson and Tim Duncan.

If he continues to improve, he could easily surpass Duncan's career P.E.R. of 24.2, with him currently at 23.5. Robinson would be a taller hill to climb, with him boasting a jaw-dropping 26.4 P.E.R.

Victor Wembanyama is off to a historic start with the Spurs

For reference, a P.E.R. of 20 is considered all-star level. Anything over 25 is the absolute best of the best, and only ten players have ever done that over their careers. Let's hope that Wembanyama can get to that level.

Even if Wembanyama's P.E.R. were to stay the same over his career-- assuming his career lasts at least 400 games—he'd still rank in the top 25 all-time. That will hopefully be his floor.

As he returns from deep-vein thrombosis (DVT), the hope is that he can quickly ramp up and pick up where he left off. Prior to him being ruled out halfway through last season, he struggled with conditioning, which turned out to be a symptom of DVT.

Victor Wembanyama could be even better going forward

----------------------------------------------------

With him now cleared, he'll hopefully have far more energy than he had at certain points last season. Considering that he still managed to average 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks with that holding him back, even a 10% improvement could transform him into a top-5 player.

With Luke Kornet backing him up, the Spurs will hopefully be able to keep Wembanyama from having to play huge minutes and allow him to put up big numbers without wearing him down. If that happens, then he is sure to shoot up the all-time P.E.R. rankings while also overtaking Robinson as the Spurs' career leader in that category.

Ultimately, considering how many great players have played for the Spurs, Wembanyama already ranking third in all-time P.E.R. is impressive. With him still young and improving, there's a chance for him to eventually overtake Robinson as the Spurs' franchise leader while also establishing himself as an all-time great.
