There were a host of upsets in EuroBasket 2025 this weekend including a stunning loss by France to Georgia in the round-of-16. Former Celtics forward Guerschon Yabusele was one of France’s top performers in the tournament as a host of other top NBA talent including Rudy Gobert and Victor Wembanyama did not suit up. Yabusele had a solid tournament before Sunday’s defeat including a 36 point performance against Poland. However, he struggled in the knockout round, scoring just 12 points while going 1-of-6 from 3-point range in the 80-70 defeat.
Yabusele was visibly frustrated after the defeat during the postgame issue and even made a point of calling out a Georgian journalist who was loudly celebrating the victory near the media interviews.
“Hey, we’re talking here, calm down,” Yabusele said via EuroHoops. “You’re the journalist, you’re not a player.”
France was expected to compete with Serbia and Germany for a gold medal in tournament but instead find themselves on the outside looking in alongside Serbia who was also upset by Finland on Sunday, making Germany the heavy favorites to win the tournament.
Yabusele will now get a couple weeks to rest up after a disappointing finish for France following an impressive silver medal run at the Olympics last year. He will be suiting up for a new Celtics rival next season in New York, coming off the bench for the Knicks after signing a two-year deal with the Eastern Conference finalists back in July. Yabusele will back up Karl-Anthony Towns at power forward and could also play some small ball center off the bench for new coach Mike Brown.
Boston will get an early look at Yabusele and the Knicks during the second game of the regular season on October 24 in Madison Square Garden.
