Barcelona announced on Monday that its Dutch star, Frenkie de Jong, has been injured after undergoing medical tests following pain he experienced while playing for his country's national team in the World Cup qualifiers.
The club said in a statement: "The player has a minor injury to the external obturator muscle of his right leg," noting that "De Jong's participation in matches will depend on the development of his condition."
“This makes De Jong's participation in Barça's match against Valencia next Sunday a major doubt.”
This injury further exacerbates Barcelona's midfield crisis, as teammate Gavi is also sidelined with a knee injury, in addition to full-back Alejandro Balde's absence for three weeks.
