The San Francisco 49ers are bringing back Kendrick Bourne on a one-year deal. The former 49ers pass catcher will surely be worked into the lineup immediately, especially considering the team is dealing with mounting injuries.
According to multiple reports, the deal is worth up to $5 million. Bourne now returns to the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent.
Bourne initially signed with the 49ers in 2017 after going undrafted out of Eastern Washington. Despite being utilized minimally, he began to showcase his pass-catching skills.
In the 2018 season, he secured 487 yards and four touchdowns. In 2019, he brought in five touchdowns and 358 yards.
Following the conclusion of the 2020 season, Bourne would sign a three-year deal with the New England Patriots.
Bourne's arrival could not come at a better time, as the 49ers continue to be hit by the injury bug to offensive players. Brandon Aiyuk remains out due to his ACL injury in 2024, Demarcus Robinson is out due to suspension, and Trent Taylor is on IR.

To make matters worse, Week 1 saw injuries occur to both George Kittle and Jauan Jennings.
Jennings had already dealt with a calf issue throughout training camp, but he also suffered a shoulder injury that kept him out of action. There is no update on his status just yet, but the telecast stated that Jennings "could barely lift his arm."
For Kittle he suffered a hamstring injury and had to be removed from the game as well. The star tight end might not have suffered anything serious, but the 49ers have yet to update his injury status.
Simply put, the 49ers have continued to lose their offensive stars to injury or suspension, and it was a miracle they still managed to defeat the Seattle Seahawks with so many players on offense hurt.
Thankfully, Christian McCaffrey showed up in a big way, helping propel the 49ers to a big win.
Now, the 49ers can bring back Bourne and slot him into an immediate starting role. San Francisco faces off against the New Orleans Saints next, and having Bourne back will surely aid the team's injury woes.
