Manchester United have now been backed with a major decision that was made over one of Ruben Amorim’s key stars going into the September international break.
Several Manchester United first-team players left Old Trafford and were called up to represent their countries on the international stage for the World Cup qualifiers.
The likes of Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko and Casemiro have linked up with their international teammates after United’s Premier League win over Burnley.
Ruben Amorim oversaw the club’s first win of the season ahead of the September break, with United sealing all three points against Burnley at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes netted the winning penalty in second-half injury time and Amorim’s men walked away with much-needed confidence on their side after the 3-2 result.

What Man Utd did over the Matheus Cunha situation amid Brazil’s World Cup qualifying campaign during the September break
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was dealt a major blow in the Red Devils’ first Premier League win of the 2025-26 season at Old Trafford.

Matheus Cunha was deployed in the frontline of Amorim’s tactical system for United and the Brazil international was lively in the first half against Burnley last month.
However, the 26-year-old Brazilian attacker would not even see out the full first half of the Premier League match after Matheus Cunha went down with an injury.
Cunha was subbed off for Joshua Zirkzee and the former Wolves ace later withdrew from Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the World Cup qualifiers in September.
Kitman Labs CEO and founder Stephen Smith has now insisted that United were in the right not to risk Brazil forward Cunha during the international break.
“United absolutely had to keep him in Manchester during the international break; there is no point putting a guy on a plane going away that far when you know he is not going to be able to participate,” the injury expert told the Metro.
“Getting him straight into rehabilitation mode at Carrington will have been really important.”

The significance of Matheus Cunha to Ruben Amorim and Man Utd was highlighted after not representing Brazil due to injury
Matheus Cunha was United’s first summer signing of the Amorim era and the ex-Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig star has already earned praise for his early showings.
The former Wolves ace has featured in all four of United’s opening matches of the 2025-26 campaign, but Cunha has not scored or picked up an assist so far.
Injury specialist Stephen Smith spotlighted that Cunha is set to play an “important role” for United and broke down the importance of getting him into rehab early.
“They obviously want him to play a really important role this season,” he continued.
“It ensures they can immediately begin work on the rehab side of things, but also on his game knowledge, the understanding of what they are trying to do tactically and technically.
“They will want to continue working on that face to face.”
Cunha has shared a cryptic update on his injury status recently ahead of United’s return to Premier League action against rivals Manchester City on the weekend.
