Arsenal player could be set for court – Summer transfer in danger of landing in legal hands

Viktor Gyokeres could soon find himself caught up in legal proceedings linked to his summer switch to Arsenal.

As reported by Portuguese newspaper [**Correio da Manhã**](https://www.cmjornal.pt/desporto/futebol/detalhe/gyokeres-testemunha-contra-varandas), the striker is ready to testify against Sporting president Frederico Varandas in support of his agent, Hasan Çetinkaya.

Journalist António M. Pereira explains that Çetinkaya is preparing to take Sporting to court over what he claims were millions lost in the deal.

The agent gave up the 10% commission originally included in Gyokeres’ contract – worth around £6.5m (€7.6m) from the £65.7m (€70m) transfer fee Arsenal paid.

He also walked away from a further £850k (€1m) linked to bonuses, with the Premier League side having agreed up to £8.5m (€10m) in add-ons.

Correio da Manhã added that the agent only backed down under pressure, not wanting to risk Gyokeres missing out on the move. Now he wants to recover at least part of that sum and intends to use the player’s testimony to back his case.

Çetinkaya also feels he was defamed, pointing to public remarks Varandas made in June when negotiations were at their most tense.

At the time, the Sporting chief said _“threats, blackmail and offences do not work with me”_ and added _“I believe Viktor could leave, unless he has the worst agent in the world, which I don’t think he does.”_

With the Swedish striker now backing his agent, what started as a transfer saga could spill into an off-field battle. The legal row may be far from over, and Arsenal’s record signing could find the story following him well beyond the pitch.
