Yamaha's planned private test at Barcelona at the Monday after the Catalonian Grand Prix has not gone as smoothly as Fabio Quartararo and the other Yamaha riders had hoped. The day started damp, and showers on and off during the day meant track conditions were far from ideal.
There are no official reports from the tests, and no times have been released, but people with knowledge of the test said that Andrea Dovizioso, Alex Rins, Jack Miller, and Fabio Quartararo all rode during the day. It is almost certain that if Quartararo and Rins rode, it would have been aboard the V4, as there would have been little sense in them riding the current inline four M1.
Unofficial and unconfirmed times say that Fabio Quartararo set the best time at the test, with a 1'39.3. For reference, Quartararo's Q2 time at the weekend was a 1'37.803, and his best time in Saturday's sprint race was 1'38.857. Race times need to be treated with caution, given the need to manage tire wear on Barcelona's demanding surface.
Yamaha were not the only team at the test. The Japanese factory were sharing the circuit with Honda, where factory riders Joan Mir and Luca Marini were continuing work with the new chassis and swingarm they used at the weekend.
Yamaha's V4 will get its first public outing next week, at the Misano round, where Augusto Fernandez is to race the bike as a wildcard. The V4 will also get another public outing at the test on the Monday after Misano, where Fabio Quartararo, Alex Rins and Jack Miller are due to test the bike.
