Sister of former NBA Sixth Man of the Year fatally shot by boyfriend

The sister of NBA player Naz Reid was fatally shot by her boyfriend in New Jersey over the weekend.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Sept. 6 that Shaquille Green, 29, of Jackson Township has been charged with the murder of Toraya Reid, 28, also of Jackson Township.

Reid was found dead in the roadway at the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road at 11 a.m. on Sept. 6. She sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was laying near the exit of the apartment complex when police arrived.

Green, who had been dating Reid, was found running on North New Prospect Road and was arrested without incident. He is also charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Naz Reid, 25, is a New Jersey native who starred at Roselle Catholic in high school before moving on to LSU.

He is entering his seventh season with the Minnesota Timberwolves and was named the NBA’s “Sixth Man of the Year” for the 2023-2024 season.

He’s averaged 11.6 points and 4.9 rebounds for his career, which began as an undrafted free agent in 2019.
