Andre Onana 10-year prediction at Man United has now completely backfired

Manchester United are set to confirm the departure of goalkeeper Andre Onana on a season-long loan deal.

With Senne Lammens arriving on deadline day, Manchester United ended the transfer window with a bloated goalkeeping department.

Reports claim that Andre Onana’s relationship with Ruben Amorim soured over the summer, with the £44m signing wanting a new contract.

Andre Onana’s only appearance this season came in the shock defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town, where he made a costly error between the sticks.

Now, Onana has agreed to join Trabzonspor for the rest of the 2025/26 season, and it likely spells the end of his career at United.

Andre Onana prediction has gone horribly wrong

When Onana was signed by Erik ten Hag in 2023, he was brought in to try and implement a new style of play having been known for his good footwork at Inter Milan.

But Onana simply made too many mistakes at United and has now had to leave to pursue regular game time.

But back in 2023, MUTV pundit Fraizer Campbell predicted Onana could be United’s goalkeeper for the next decade.

“He’s been steady. He’s really good with the ball at his feet,” Campbell said.

“He’s got the quality to overcome that [criticism] and he could be a good goalkeeper for the next 10 years.”

Andre Onana leaves Man United as a flop

When the deal was announced, United claimed Onana was ‘one of the world’s best’, but he leaves Manchester with a shattered reputation.

From starring for Inter Milan in the Champions League final, to being considered the third-choice shotstopper at Old Trafford in the space of two years, Onana’s time at United has not been a success.

Ultimately, Onana’s move was a “calamity” and he will go down in the history books as another big-money transfer flop.

Ineos are improving United’s transfer record, and they will hope that Lammens can fix the goalkeeper issue that has been plaguing Ruben Amorim.

But there are lessons to be learned from Onana’s failings at United.
