76ers Trying to Trade 2 Veterans Ahead of Season: Report

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking for a bounce-back season after being one of the most disappointing teams in the league last season.

Health was a huge factor for the 76ers last season, with several key players missing significant time. This year could look much different if they manage to stay on the court. Should things break their way, Philadelphia has a real chance to make noise in a weaker Eastern Conference.

Nonetheless, the 76ers are reportedly seeking to make a few roster tweaks.

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the 76ers are reportedly weighing trade options with veterans Kelly Oubre Jr. and Andre Drummond.

"There has been buzz all summer long about the Sixers looking to potentially move one of, if not both, Andre Drummond and Kelly Oubre," Fischer said.

"If they are able to find a deal for one of those two guys as we get closer to camp, that would open up some more wiggle room for Philadelphia to be able to pay Grimes a little bit more," Fischer noted.

The 76ers could greatly benefit from either player, as it would create more flexibility to re-sign restricted free agent, Quientnt Grimes. Grimes was one of the few lone bright spots for the 76ers last season.

The 25-year-old was traded to the 76ers and played in 28 games for the team. In those contests, Grimes averaged 21.9 points per game, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 46.9 percent from the field and 37.3 percent from beyond the arc in 33.7 minutes of action.

The 76ers would love to keep Grimes, as he has proven to be an electric scorer and could be pivotal for a Philadelphia team that needs some scoring punch off the bench.

However, first things first: moving with either Drummond or Oubre.

Oubre is set to enter his third season with the 76ers after he initially signed a one-year deal prior to the start of the 2023-24 season. In two seasons in Philadelphia, Obure has averaged 15.3 points per game, 5.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 128 games with 109 starts.

As for Drummond, he is in his second stint with the club. In 40 games last season, the former lottery pick averaged 7.3 points per game, 7.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 18.8 minutes of action. Because Joel Embiid missed a majority of the season due to injury, Drummond started in 23 games.

The 76ers are not considered a top team this upcoming season, but if they remain healthy, they could surprise many.
