Salford City appoint former Man Utd executive as CBO, David Beckham and Gary Neville take advantage of connections

There have been lots of changes at Manchester United since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner in 2024.

Once Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment was confirmed, Ineos took control of football operations at Manchester United and made many changes to restructure the football club.

Over 400 redundancies were announced by United, and there have been many changes to staff, including a change of head coach and backroom staff.

Omar Berrada was made chief executive, while Jason Wilcox eventually became football director following a five-month stint with Dan Ashworth.

However, it was only a matter of time before other clubs in football took advantage of United’s staff cuts, with many respected figures becoming unemployed.

Football has no shortage of networks, and connections prove crucial whether you’re a journalist or senior club executive. We’ll see how important that is as more former members of United’s staff find employment elsewhere.

He was responsible for digital growth and innovation strategies, with a background in commercial leadership.

Salford City announced Joyce’s appointment on Monday evening: “Salford City Football Club (SCFC) today announced the appointment of Ronan Joyce as the Club’s new Chief Business Officer (CBO).”

Speaking about his appointment, Joyce commented: “I’m thrilled to be joining Salford City at such a pivotal moment in the Club’s journey.

“The opportunity to help shape the commercial strategy of such a forward-thinking and ambitious club is incredibly exciting. Together with our leadership group, I look forward to building a team and culture that delivers for our fans, our partners, and the wider community.”

Salford City are currently eighth in League Two, but Joyce will be aiming to get results off the pitch.

Salford City benefit from David Beckham and Gary Neville’s connections

United legends David Beckham and Gary Neville are the co-owners of Salford City.

Beckham and Neville can use their connections in football and business to help drive the new consortium at the League Two club.

Many talented staff members have left United in the past year, but Salford City were quick to appoint Joyce following his departure earlier this summer.

Neville commented on Joyce’s arrival, saying: “From day one, our mission has been clear—to build the best small club in the world. Bringing Ronan on board is another big step towards that vision. His experience at the very highest level of football and technology gives us the tools to grow sustainably and continue creating something that our fans and the city of Salford can be proud of.”
