Man Utd transfers: the ins&outs from a busy summer at Old Trafford&now City in the Derby

Manchester United have completed an eventful summer outing in the transfer market, adding several stars to their squad ahead of an enormous season for gaffer Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese enjoyed his first summer at Manchester and utilised the chance to start toi develop his own team after taking over midway through last season.

The Red Devils were active in the transfer market and went to great lengths and breadths to provide the correct and necessary tools for Amorim’s quest to win silverware for the Old Trafford side. Manchester United were also proactive in offloading players from their roster that were surplus to requirements to Amorim’s plans.

The club have also emphasised the growth of their academy stars as part of their summer plans, finding loan deals for several promising candidates like Jack Moorhouse and Zach Baumann. Shotstopper, Andre Onana, is already on his way out of the club and will be joining Turkish side, Trabzonspor on a season-long loan.

Now after a tough start to the season enduring a somewhat unlucky opening loss to Arsenal, followed by a draw at Fulham and then the infamy of losing to League 2 Grimsby Town in the League Cup, United look to back up their lucky 3-2 win over Burnley with a victory vs Man City in the Derby.

Arrivals at Old Trafford

Manchester United’s first summer arrival was Matheus Cunha, costing £62.5 million. The club activated his release clause at Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club also completed their new-looking attack line with the additions of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

Ruben Amorim also wanted a change of guard between the sticks and brought in Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp in a deal valued at £18.2 million. Despite the additions, Manchester United look short on the midfield front and might pay the price for it at the business end of the season.

Departures from Old Trafford

The Red Devils were more than ready to call time on the future of several players at the club. The Old Trafford side also sought to make amends for their poor transfer business of the past as they allowed club record signings like Antony, Rasmus Hojlund and Jadon Sancho to leave the team and seek other challenges.

Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof were released from the squad after United decided not to renew their contracts. Marcus Rashford will get a breath of fresh air after joining Flick’s project at FC Barcelona. Amorim’s team will also track and monitor the progress of 14 players on loan stints at various clubs.

There is a funny saying about Manchester United, “three good signings away from being three good signings away”. The Red Devils’ supporters would be optimistic heading into the season and would be hopeful of better results after a decent-looking transfer window.

Despite not enjoying the ideal start to the season, Amorim’s side looks far more promising and seems to be almost hitting the right gears but also at times seem miles off it. The Manchester derby is scheduled right after the international break and could be a good time for United to face Pep Guardiola & Co., with the Citizens not being in the best of form themselves.

However both clubs may have their new goalkeepers in the side and they could be the difference on the day. You could say it’s a case of new keepers Gianluigi Donnarumma Vs Senne Lammens at the Etihad on September 14th and whoever concedes less goals will lead their side to victory.
