It's been an amazing offseason for one specific Los Angeles Chargers rookie.

T

he Los Angeles Chargers are off to a hot start. Taking on the Kansas City Chiefs in São Paulo, Brazil in week one, the Chargers left with a victory, getting the best of the the four-time Super Bowl champions en route to a 27-21 victory. Now 1-0 to begin 2025, the Chargers have a lot of momentum heading into next week, with their goal for the season simple– make a run at the Super Bowl.

And after taking home the win on Sept. 5, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has high praise for the win and could not be happier with how his team showed out against a Chiefs team that has wreaked havoc across the league for nearly a decade.

Harbaugh’s Comments About the Win

In the NFL, any team can beat anybody, with the competition stiff and cutthroat. But entering the game against the Chiefs, the Chargers were underdogs and with the upset win, Harbaugh is calling it a very big win when it comes to the trajectory of the season.

“It’s a big, big win,” Harbaugh said. “Our guys really prepared for it, they worked extremely hard, and just throughout the course of the game you could tell our guys weren’t going to be denied. We were playing against a team, that’s how they play — they’re not going to be denied. Two opposing wills, two opposing forces, and we came out on top.”

The Chiefs have won the AFC West every season since 2016 and if Harbaugh and the Chargers want to break the streak and win the division themselves this season, they know that they need to get through Kansas City. Taking home the week one win is just the start of something special that the Chargers feel they have this season.

The Momentum This Win Gives the Chargers

There are still 16 games left to go, but knocking the Chiefs down to 0-1 and doing so after such a long trip has Harbaugh feeling like the Chargers have something that they can maintain all season long.

“There’s nothing that makes you feel more like a man than when you compete against a team at the highest level and you prevail,” Harbaugh said. “And the longer the travel, the better it makes for the feeling of breaking through, overcoming. It was awesome.”

“It’s monumental. September 5 will go down in Charger lore, in my opinion,” Harbaugh added. “It was a big win.”

The designated home team in Brazil, the Chargers will have one less home game this season and will play their home opener at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 21 against the Denver Broncos in week three. But before that, they must get through the Las Vegas Raiders on the road in week two, a team that is also coming off of a big week one win. Kickoff for the Chargers and Raiders matchup is set for 7 p.m. (PT) on Sept. 15 as part of a Monday Night Football doubleheader, with the game taking place at Allegiant Stadium.
