CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - A shooting in the Flats at East Bank left at least six people hospitalized Sunday evening, just hours after the Cleveland Browns season opener.
One of the people shot is believed to be a suspect, according to Cleveland Police.
19 Investigates looked into crime in that area and the business that police boarded up in connection to the shooting.
Chaos broke out as gunfire erupted on W. 10th Street Sunday.
A surveillance camera from a nearby business caught the crowd running.
Cleveland Police said it all started outside of Play Bar and Grill.
Citing Sunday night’s shooting and prior incidents, police boarded up the business on the corner of Front Ave.
19 Investigates found that bar was previously called Anejo Tequila Joint.
Back in February 2022, a customer was shot and killed there in the parking lot right across the street.
Records show the liquor permit holder of Play Bar and Grill is Giant Step Inc., which also held the permit when it was called Anejo Tequila Joint, according to the [Ohio Department of Commerce](https://com.ohio.gov/).
We learned the permit holder has a history of violations.
We found 10 dating back to 2019, some regarding taxes and improper conduct, according to the state agency.
The latest violation has been active since July 2024.
We reached out to the department of commerce for more details on that case.
We’re still waiting to hear back.
19 Investigates also tracked crime in the business area of the East Bank of the Flats using data from Cleveland Police.
We found more than 300 crimes have been reported over the last year ranging from theft and vandalism to at least 20 stolen vehicles.
There have been at least 10 felonious assaults, some of those involving guns.
City law director Mark Griffin said the bar can appeal the city shutting it down.
He also said they’re facing other citations, but they’re not disclosing those right now.
19 Investigates reached out to Play Bar and Grill asking if they have a comment about being shut down and if they plan to appeal.
We have not heard back.
