Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Did Something Not Done in 60 Years vs Jets

To say the start of Aaron Rodgers' tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers was a success would be an understatement. Rodgers was dominant against hid old team, the New York Jets, in Week 1.

While the game was a shootout that ended in a 34-32 win for the Steelers, the 41-year-old quarterback powered his team to a win. At times, he looked like old-school Rodgers. That is a scary thought for opponents.

After a long offseason of rumors and speculation, Rodgers looked rejuvenated and happy. He looked to be having fun once again after two brutal seasons with the Jets.

Following the win over his old team, Rodgers sent a pointed shot to New York and everyone involved in the organization.

"I was happy to beat everyone associated with the Jets," Rodgers said.

Rodgers ended the game with an eye-opening stat line. He completed 22 of his 30 pass attempts for 244 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions.

With those numbers, Rodgers actually did something that no other NFL player has done in the last 60 years.

As shared by NFL on CBS, no other quarterback has thrown for 240 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions in their debut with a new team in the last 60 NFL seasons. Rodgers can add that milestone to his resume.

Granted, barely beating the Jets was not ideal for Pittsburgh. However, it's just game one. The Steelers have plenty of time to clean everything up and start firing on all cylinders.

Being able to win close games in the NFL is no easy task. Rodgers and company were able to make the necessary plays to get the job done.

If Rodgers can continue playing at the level he showed in Week 1, Pittsburgh will have a good shot at being a Super Bowl contender. That is a lot to ask from a 41 and seen to be 42-year-old quarterback. But, he's one of the best quarterbacks to ever play.

Next week, the Steelers will have their home opener against the Seattle Seahawks. Rodgers will look to replicate his success, while star wide receiver DK Metcalf will have his chance at a revenge game against his old team.

No one should expect the exact same kind of performance from him in Week 2, but if he can keep making plays and taking care of the football, Pittsburgh will be in good shape.
