Vikings Make WR Move Before Bears Game

The Minnesota Vikings are preparing to face the Chicago Bears in an NFC North clash on Monday night, and prior to the contest, the Vikings have made a move at wide receiver.

Ian Rapoport of NFL media has reported that Minnesota has elevated receiver Tim Jones from the practice squad, likely to add some depth thanks to Jordan Addison's three-game suspension to begin the season.

Jones spent the first three years of his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars after going undrafted out of Southern Mississippi. He only saw scarce playing time during his time with the Jaguars, amassing 17 catches for 154 yards between 2022 and 2024.

The 27-year-old posted decent numbers on the collegiate level, with his best season coming in 2019 when he hauled in 73 receptions for 902 yards and four touchdowns.

At 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Jones has solid size, and he also possesses nice speed which could make him a viable downfield threat. However, with the Vikings already having Justin Jefferson, Jalen Nailor and recent trade addition Adam Thielen, it seems hard to imagine Jones actually getting any targets. Rookie Tai Felton might even be in the mix before Jones, as well.

Minnesota went 14-3 last season but decided to switch quarterbacks in an unprecedented move, allowing Sam Darnold to walk via free agency to clear the way for 2024 first-round draft pick J.J. McCarthy.

McCarthy missed his entire rookie campaign due to a knee injury. He certainly has a whole lot to prove going into his first start, but the good news is that he definitely has enviable weaponry at his disposal.

Not only does McCarthy have great wide receivers, but he also has a terrific tight end in T.J. Hockenson and an outstanding duo of Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason in the backfield.

We'll see if McCarthy can stamp his name among the top young signal-callers in the league this fall.
