Mike Vrabel admitted that the Patriots would evaluate whether Drake Maye had too much on his plate.
But the Maye doesn’t believe that to be the case.
“I wouldn’t say that,” the quarterback said during his weekly appearance on “WEEI Afternoons.” “At the end of the day, playing quarterback in the NFL can be a lot on your plate no matter what team you play for. ... I think I’m ready for it and I think I’ll get more and more comfortable each week as I play in this offense.”
Maye went 30-of-46 for 287 yards with one touchdown and one interception in New England’s Week 1 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Much like others on the team, he struggled in the second half.
Vrabel said on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” that he wants Maye to be precise, not perfect, when he’s on the field.
There’s still plenty of season left for Maye — and the rest of the Patriots — to improve. Their next chance comes in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins — who scored a league-low eight points in their blowout loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
