BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Bryan and College Station’s mayors have declared Sep. 8 ‘Alex Caruso Day’ in Aggieland.
Oklahoma City Thunder Guard Alex Caruso is a former A&M basketball player. Born and raised in College Station, he started the Alex Caruso Foundation to give back to the youth of the community he grew up in by raising money for local youth initiatives.
The Aggieland legend hosted his golf tournament for the second year in a row, which benefits the Boys & Girls Club of the Brazos Valley.
In turn, Bryan and College Station mayors Bobby Gutierrez and John Nichols honored Caruso for his commitment and work at the tournament.

“It’s our pleasure to welcome Alex back again and express our gratitude for all he continues to do for the College Station and Bryan communities,” Mayor Nichols said.
Funds from Monday’s golf tournament will be distributed among various programs across Texas that align with the foundation’s mission to create access to athletic, academic, and social opportunities to empower the next generation.
The star of the tournament was the Larry O’Brien trophy, which traveled with Caruso over the weekend after his Oklahoma City Thunder won the NBA Championship this summer.
The former Texas A&M and A&M Consolidated star won his second ring in the NBA (LA Lakers in 2020, OKC Thunder in 2025). He also got to show off the new hardware at Kyle Field on Saturday during Texas A&M football’s game against Utah State.
“To be able to do it with the Larry O’Brien Trophy this year is really special,” Caruso said on being recognized at Kyle Field. “Last year, I got inducted into the Hall of Fame and went with eight other people or seven other people. But the individual, you know, recognition out there with the trophy above my head, it was really cool.“
Before the shotgun start at Traditions Club on Monday, participants had a photo op with the Larry O’Brien trophy on display. The Thunder’s mascot, “Rumble the Bison,” was also on site for pictures.
Caruso said he’s ready to run it back this year with the Thunder. He joked he may need more room for his rings.
“I might have to switch to the left hand cause the right hand is the one that gets beat up a lot,” Caruso said. “The knuckles are a different size than the actual ring size, so we’ll see what happens when that time comes.”
