Jacksonville Jaguars Trade Tank Bigsby to Philadelphia Eagles

Bigsby, a third-round pick out of Auburn in 2023, showed flashes of potential during his two seasons in Jacksonville. After a quiet rookie year, he delivered a pair of breakout performances in 2024, including back-to-back 100-yard games with multiple touchdowns. Despite his upside, the Jaguars opted to move on, choosing draft capital over depth at running back.

For Philadelphia, the deal provides valuable insurance behind Saquon Barkley, who headlines the Eagles’ backfield. Bigsby offers a physical, downhill rushing style that complements Barkley’s explosiveness and should give the Eagles more flexibility in their ground game.

For Jacksonville, the move is about the long view. By adding two mid-round selections in 2026, the Jaguars give themselves more flexibility to build their roster in the seasons ahead. This move will open the door for more touches for the Jags’ two rookies, Bhayshul Tuten and LeQuint Allen Jr. Tuten was selected in the 4th round out of Virginia Tech, with 4.3 speed, and Allen Jr. was selected in the seventh round out of Syracuse. Both have built up hype around their performances in camp and the preseason.

The move signals another step in reshaping the roster under new general manager James Gladstone. Since being hired, Gladstone has been unafraid to make bold moves, prioritizing building the roster his way and long-term flexibility over short-term depth. This trade opens up Gladstone’s vision and aligns with head coach Liam Coen’s system.

The trade also underscores a philosophical difference between the two franchises. Philadelphia is clearly all-in on surrounding Barkley and quarterback Jalen Hurts with as many offensive weapons as possible for a deep playoff run. Meanwhile, Jacksonville is looking further down the road, making decisions with the long-term trajectory of the team in mind.
