Aaron Rodgers given absurd PFF grade after four-touchdown Steelers debut

Aaron Rodgers ended his Pittsburgh Steelers debut with four touchdowns and zero interceptions, but not everyone was impressed with the debut. Pro Football Focus docked Rodgers for two turnover worthy plays, and gave him a 56.2 grade overall.

That grade ranked 24th in the NFL among quarterbacks in the NFL. The two plays they docked Rodgers heavily for was a dig route thrown behind Calvin Austin III that was nearly an interception by Jets cornerback Michael Carter II and a near interception he threw to Jets cornerback Brandon Stephens while under pressure.

Even still, Rodgers’ performance was incredibly impressive and earned him praise from around the locker room as the Steelers scored 34 points in a shootout. n

No other Steelers quarterback has thrown for four or more touchdowns in their Steelers debut other than Rodgers. He is the first one to do that in team history.

Rodgers’ top performance was no surprise to the team, who thought he would do this after seeing him in training. Head coach Mike Tomlin said the four-time MVP was ‘game’ all day.

“I just thought he was game all day. But again, you guys asked me last week, why was I confident. That’s why I was confident. That’s what I’ve been looking at in preparation, and I’m appreciated of it, not only his efforts but the efforts of the collective,” Tomlin said.

He finished 22 of 30 with four touchdowns and zero interceptions with 244 passing yards. That performance helped power the Steelers to the win more than anything else.

Rodgers will look to build off that as the Seattle Seahawks come to Acrisure Stadium on Sunday.
