Manchester United have a huge week ahead of their showdown with Manchester City in the derby as the Premier League gears up to return after the international break

Andre Onana

Andre Onana has agreed to leave Manchester United

Manchester United face a daunting trip to The Etihad this Sunday when they meet Manchester City in the derby. But Ruben Amorim and Co may just fancy their chances of staging an upset when the Premier League resumes.

United signed off for the international break with their first three-point haul of the season courtesy of a 3-2 win over Burnley and their new-look team has has looked slick in patches, albeit they've lost two of their three games. City, meanwhile, are coming into the game off the back of consecutive defeats against Brighton and Tottenham.

United have a host of players away on international duty who should be available for selection, though, Andre Onana is not expected to return after agreeing to join Trabzonspor on loan, leaving Amorim with a Manchester derby dilemma.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest news from Old Trafford ahead of this weekend's big game...

Onana gets his wish

Andre Onana may not be getting the new contract he was after from Manchester United earlier this summer, but he will almost double his wages once he finalises his switch to the Turkish Super Lig.

That's per The Athletic, who confirm that Onana will basically bank a hefty pay increase due to a significant signing-on fee and bonuses with his new club, who face Fenerbahce on Sunday.

Onana featured for Cameroon on Thursday in their 3-0 win over Eswatini and is expected to play again on Tuesday when they travel to Cape Verde before linking up with his new club.

Butt's alarming Sesko point

Nicky Butt has questioned United's decision to sign Benjamin Sesko over Ollie Watkins

Nicky Butt is concerned that Manchester United have got it wrong by choosing to pursue a move for Benjamin Sesko instead of a tried and tested Premier League striker such as Ollie Watkins.

The Red Devils were linked with Watkins, 29, before deciding to press ahead with a swoop for Sesko, who joined the club in a deal worth £73.8m. But United's former midfielder told BetMGM: "I hope I’m wrong but I really hope they aren’t making the same mistakes with [Benjamin] Sesko as they did with Rasmus [Hojlund]."

He continued: "Honestly, for what it would have cost, I would have gone and brought in someone like Ollie Watkins, someone to help and pull the young strikers out of a bad patch.

"When young players are just coming into the club, when the onus is on them to score goals, if they’re having a few bad games they have to have the safety net of being pulled out of the firing line. Ollie Watkins, or someone like that, would be who I would have been looking to bring in."

United eye Bilbao star

Dani Vivian

Athletic Bilbao defender Dani Vivian has been linked with Manchester United

Manchester United are one of three Premier League clubs eyeing up the Athletic Bilbao defender, Dani Vivian, per Fichajes.

They claim that United, Aston Villa and Newcastle are all monitoring the 26-year-old centre-back, who has a €40m (£34.6m) release clause in his contract. Bilbao are reluctant to lose Vivian, though, meaning his suitors would have to pay said release fee in full.
