Opinion: Moyes could be face to face with Aston Villa star who rejected Everton this weekend

Aston Villa have a fresh injury blow ahead of the meeting against Everton as David Moyes could meet a former transfer target.

The Toffees are almost back from the international break, as Moyes will be hoping to pick up from where they left off.

Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall were just finding their rhythm in the team, as the attacking unit at Everton is looking promising.

So much so that Everton have looked ‘very un-Moyes-like’ in terms of creating a plethora of chances so far this season.

Playing Villa is as good a time as ever after their recent form, and Unai Emery’s side just can’t seem to catch a break.

Matty Cash is injured for Aston Villa ahead of Everton meeting

For once, going into this game, it’s the Toffees who emerge as the favourites, after their flying start in the Premier League

As mentioned, Emery’s team are struggling, and Moyes has scouted Villa ahead of the meeting at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Scotsman might have some early intel, but his plans are set to change, as Poland manager Jan Urban confirmed to Przeglad Sportowy that Matty Cash suffered a ‘severe’ injury on international duty.

“He suffered a severe bruise from the foul, after which he was assisted by doctors and physiotherapists,” Urban said.

“I’ve had injuries like that myself. It’s only a matter of time before you can’t run anymore.”

It’s unfortunate for Villa in losing a key player like the right back, and this could set up a grudge match between Moyes and a player who rejected him this summer.

Former Everton target Victor Lindelof could replace Matty Cash for Aston Villa

With Moyes looking to strengthen his defensive options last summer, this is one area the Friedkin Group struggled to complete.

Everton wanted a centre back and a right back, but neither was managed, and a name that arose was former Man United star Victor Lindelof.

Villa ultimately signed Everton target Lindelof, and now, with Cash’s injury, the Swede could start centre-back with Ezri Konsa occupying the right back slot, as Emery’s side don’t have the best cover in full back with Lindelof also potentially being a straight swap for Cash.

After rejecting a move to Merseyside, it will be very interesting to see the defender make his possible debut, and Evertonians can give their verdict on whether they have missed out.
