Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana will reportedly double his salary when he completes a season-long loan move to Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor this week.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, Andre Onana is on the cusp of completing a season-long loan move to Trabzonspor. The Claret-Blues have struck an agreement with Manchester United over a deal, with the player giving the green light to complete the switch. The latest update has revealed that the Cameroonian international will double his wages at the Turkish Super Lig club.
Andre Onana and his Manchester United woes
Andre Onana has struggled to remain consistent since joining Manchester United from Inter Milan in a deal worth £47.2 million in July 2023. While the former Ajax goalkeeper arrived at Old Trafford amid hype surrounding him after his exploits for Inter Milan, the decision to replace David de Gea with him divided opinions among the Manchester United fans.
The 29-year-old has not helped his case either, with his calamitous displays between the sticks inviting criticism from pundits and the Manchester United fans. Things went from bad to worse as Onana’s error-strewn performance played its part in the EFL Cup ouster against Grimsby Town in the second round.
The Cameroonian international has made over 100 appearances thus far for Manchester United while keeping 24 clean sheets and conceding 150 goals. However, it was hardly surprising that Onana faced an uncertain future at Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim preferred Altay Bayindir over him in the first three matches of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
What next?
Widespread reports linked Andre Onana with several well-known clubs before the summer transfer window shut down in most countries. However, with Manchester United ready to part ways with the former Inter Milan goalkeeper, a summer exit was on the cards, as the window was still open in Turkiye and Saudi Arabia.
Onana attracted interest from Turkiye and Saudi Arabia, and Trabzonspor moved quickly to strike an agreement with Manchester United over a season-long loan deal. The Turkish Super Lig club needed a goalkeeper after selling Ugurcan Cakir to Galatasaray earlier in the summer transfer window.
While Onana has given the green light to a season-long loan move to Trabzonspor, the latest report has revealed that the player will double his wages when he moves to the Turkish Super Lig this week. So, the move has worked out for all parties, although Manchester United would have preferred a permanent exit after signing Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
