“I became a Liverpool player” – Alexander Isak hits back at Newcastle United treatment, hints there’s more to say

On deadline day, Alexander Isak left Newcastle United and completed a permanent move to Liverpool.

The Sweden international was finally able to see his wish of joining Liverpool fulfilled by forcing a move away from Newcastle by essentially going on strike with the Magpies.

He was criticised by Newcastle fans and a section of the media, including pundits and former players, for the way he behaved to secure a move to Liverpool.

The striker immediately joined the Sweden camp after joining the Reds and played his first competitive fixture since May when he came off the bench in Sweden’s 2-0 defeat to Kosovo in the World Cup qualifiers on Monday.

After the tie, he spoke to the Swedish media for the first time since leaving Newcastle for the Merseyside club and [Aftonbladet](https://www.aftonbladet.se/sportbladet/fotboll/a/kwlMVX/alexander-isak-bryter-tystnaden-om-sommarens-kaos) have relayed his comments.

_“It’s great that things were cleared up before the squad and that I could focus on playing football again. It’s been a fairly new situation for me, but you always learn and develop mentally off the pitch too,”_ he said.

Aftonbladet pointed out that Newcastle’s official statement of his sale to Liverpool had 37 words. The 25-year-old insisted people aren’t fully aware what happened behind the scenes in the summer.

_“It’s a bit like it is. It’s clear that not everyone has the whole picture, but that’s something for another day. Right now, the disappointment is about this match and how it went. But at the same time, I have a positive feeling about the club team part that is coming,”_ Isak explained.

During the summer, Isak took to Instagram to express his desire to leave Newcastle, and this angered their supporters. He’s now pleased with the final outcome.

_“That’s part of football. I can’t control everything that is said or written. But I’m glad I became a Liverpool player. That’s what I wanted and I’m happy about that,”_ he added.

_“There is a lot to discuss, and it can be discussed for a long time. It has been educational, and I’m happy with the final result. I’m happy and proud to be a Liverpool player. I don’t want to go into details or talk about that situation too much. It is a closed chapter, but I have never had any problems.”_
