With the start of the 2025-26 NBA regular season a little over a month away, there are still quite a few solid players remaining in free agency.

Among these players is Ben Simmons who remains unsigned heading into the new season.

Of course, the former first overall pick played for both the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers last season but according to a recent report, the veteran guard is contemplating retirement.

Despite this, there have been multiple teams that have shown interest in adding Simmons to their roster this offseason but he is looking for a contract that is higher than the veteran’s minimum.

Because of this, it was recently reported that the 29-year-old guard recently turned down an offer from a contender in the Eastern Conference.

Ben Simmons Turned Down Knicks’ Contract Offer

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Simmons had a chance to join the New York Knicks this offseason but turned down their contract offer.

Stein reported that New York offered Simmons a one-year contract at the veteran’s minimum but with the former top pick looking for more than a veteran’s minimum this season, he turned down the Knicks’ offer.

This is a massive report by Stein and one that comes as somewhat of a surprise as it had been reported that the Knicks were one of the main frontrunners to sign Simmons this offseason as they had shown a ton of interest in him.

Stein also reported that the Boston Celtics have also showed interest in Simmons but could also only offer him a minimum contract.

With Simmons turning down the Knicks’ contract offer, he will now continue to search for a new job with the start of the regular season right around the corner and there is a possibility that he is not on a roster by the start of the season.

Knicks to Look Elsewhere to Fill Final Roster Spot

On the other side, the Knicks ae still in search of another veteran player to fill the final spot on their roster.

Of course, New York has been linked to many players like both Simmons and Russell Westbrook for their final roster spot but with both players looking elsewhere, so will the Knicks, though they have been linked to a reunion with Landry Shamet.

The good news for the Knicks is that there are still quite a few veteran players remaining on the free agent market that they could sign to a veteran’s minimum to fill their final roster spot to upgrade their second unit as they chase a title this season.
