Despite being the No. 1 overall NBA Draft pick in 2016 and having an incredible start to his career, things have taken a turn for the worse for Ben Simmons.
The Australian native has looked like a shell of his former self and no longer looks like the All-Star he was as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. Furthermore, he split time with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers last season, but his future is up in the air as he remains a free agent.
Recently, reports suggested that Simmons rejected an offer from the New York Knicks this offseason and had interest from the Boston Celtics, though nothing came to fruition there (h/t Marc Stein of The Stein Line).
“The Knicks, league sources said, indeed offered a one-year contract to Ben Simmons that the former All-Star passed on. New York is limited to minimum contract offers as training camps draw near, and Simmons entered the summer hopeful of securing a contract above the minimum after he split last season between the Nets and Clippers. Boston and New York, I’m told, expressed the most serious interest in Simmons this summer,” Stein wrote.

With the start of next season less than two months away, the former Rookie of the Year does not have a lot of time to find a new home for himself if he wants to resume his playing career. However, according to the latest updates, there is a chance that Simmons does not want to keep playing in the league, and he now faces a major retirement decision.
Ben Simmons Is Reportedly Weighing Retirement
Over the past few years, Simmons has left a lot to be desired whenever he steps on the court, and it has left many to wonder what the rest of his playing career could look like. While he has not made any official decisions yet, Simmons is reportedly weighing retirement and is still undecided about whether he wants to continue his NBA career or not (h/t Stefan Bondy of the New York Post).
“Ben Simmons has generated interest from the Knicks and another team but is also questioning whether he even wants to continue playing in the NBA next season, The Post has learned,” Bondy wrote.

At his peak, Simmons was a fantastic player who could contribute at every level of the game. He was incredibly versatile and played a crucial role in the 76ers’ success. However, those days are evidently long behind the 29-year-old.
When healthy, Simmons can still contribute. However, as it stands, fans may have already seen the LSU alum play his final game at the NBA level.
