Report: Nottingham Forest board started to have doubts about Nuno after surprise Elliot…

Nottingham Forest have sacked Nuno Espirito Santo after just three Premier League games of the new season.

Nuno’s falling out with Edu made his relationship with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis untenable in the end.

Forest confirmed his departure with an 80-word statement late last night, which read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as Head Coach.

“The Club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the Club.

“As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey.”

In the fallout, lots of revelations are emerging about Nuno’s tenure at the club, and one involves Elliot Anderson.

Nottingham Forest had doubts over Nuno’s eye for talent

According to the Daily Mail, the Nottingham Forest board first started having doubts over Nuno back in the spring of 2024.

Marinakis and his chiefs weren’t convinced by Nuno’s judgement of players, as he initially wasn’t convinced by Elliot Anderson.

The £35m arrival from Newcastle United has now established himself as one of the best midfielders in the country and made his England debut last week.

The Portuguese head coach also didn’t push for Morgan Gibbs-White to sign a new contract, which seemed to surprise the board.

Nuno Espirito Santo wanted Adama Traore

Clearly, Forest chiefs weren’t particularly impressed with Nuno’s ideas regarding player recruitment, as they didn’t pursue a deal to sign Adama Traore.

The former Wolves manager wanted to reunite with Traore, however, the board didn’t see the vision in putting an almost 30-year-old on a long-term contract.

They instead went for England under-21 winger Omari Hutchinson, and Nuno decided to controversially leave him out of the Europa League squad.

Hutchinson has only played nine minutes since joining from Ipswich Town, so it appeared as though the Portuguese head coach wanted to make a point.

Despite it ending on a sour note, the job Nuno has done over the last 18 months should be admired, and he likely won’t be short of suitors.
