Club‘completely at peace’ over potential legal battle involving player’s summer sale to Arsenal

Viktor Gyökeres left Sporting and completed a permanent move to Arsenal in the summer window, after a hard-fought battle with the Portuguese champions.

On Monday, Correio da Manhã reported the striker’s agent, Hasan Çetinkaya, is preparing to take the Lions to court over unpaid commission. They also said the Arsenal player could testify against Sporting president Frederico Varandas.

According to Correio da Manhã, Çetinkaya gave up 10% commission under pressure, to not jeopardise from his client’s sale to Arsenal. The agent also feels defamed by Varandas’ public remarks.

“Threats, blackmail and offences do not work with me. I believe Viktor could leave, unless he has the worst agent in the world, which I don’t think he does,” he said in the summer.

Tuesday’s edition of A Bola relays this claim about the agent considering taking legal action against Sporting and the possibility of the Sweden international being called as a witness, if there’s a court battle.

The newspaper then provides the Primeira Liga winners’ stance on the facing a potential court battle with Çetinkaya over unpaid commission and Varandas’ comment.

Sporting’s relationship with Çetinkaya and the Gunners frontman has been strained, and despite this A Bola report they are ‘completely at peace’.

Th newspaper states the agent has ‘voluntarily signed the document formally waiving the 10% commission he would have been entitled to, or approximately €6.5m, to facilitate the transfer’ of Gyökeres to Arsenal.

There could be more off-field drama if Çetinkaya were to take Sporting to court involving the 27-year-old’s transfer to the Emirates.
