Bruno Fernandes' son made the bold choice of snubbing him in favour of Jude Bellingham for his birthday.

The Manchester United captain's lad Goncalo has just turned five. But the Portuguese midfielder's pride and joy didn't get a Red Devils shirt with his daddy's name on the back.

Instead, he got a Real Madrid one, choosing to show his admiration for the Spanish giants - who his father was linked with a transfer to earlier this year - with England hero Bellingham's moniker and number on the reverse.

Fernandes shared the photograph on social media. The 31-year-old Premier League star said: "Five years of the most cuddly and affectionate boy in the family.

"Thank you for all the joy and love you bring every day to those around you."

Goncalo stood doing Three Lions ace Bellingham's trademark arms-out celebration in his new strip. He also had Madrid-themed 'Happy Birthday' bunting.

Bellingham, 22, replied with celebration and white heart emojis, as reported on What’s The Jam. And fans were quick to comment on Goncalo's selection of shirt.

A Madrid supporter said: "He knows who’s the best." One United fan joked: "Should've worn a [Harry] Maguire shirt. Happy birthday to the little man though."

Another wishfully said: "Is this a sign that Bellingham will be at United in 2026?"

In March, Fernandes was linked with a move to the Spanish club. Another supporter quipped: "Bruno, to Real Madrid here we go."

The forward also has a daughter, Matilde, eight, with his wife, Ana Pinho.

Ninth-placed United have endured a miserable start to the season, losing 1-0 to Arsenal at home on the opening weekend, before throwing away a one goal lead away at Fulham to draw 1-1.

They then suffered one of the worst defeats in their history when they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the second round away against League Two side Grimsby Town - losing 12-11 on penalties after a 2-2 draw, having at one stage been two goals down against the fourth tier side.

They bounced back from that humiliation with a last minute 3-2 win - thanks to a Fernandes penalty in injury time - against newly-promoted Burnley at Old Trafford.

Madrid meanwhile are top of La Liga after three straight wins against Osasuna, Oviedo and Mallorca.
