Turkish club Trabzonspor are set to cover Andre Onana's entire wages during his season-long loan.
Onana prepared for the new season under the assumption he would stay at Manchester United, but he was demoted when he returned from a hamstring injury and Senne Lammens was signed on deadline day.
The 29-year-old is set to complete a loan move to Trabzonspor once he returns from international duty with Cameroon, who play Cape Verde in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night.
Trabzonspor have agreed to pay Onana's entire wages during his loan spell. The goalkeeper will also receive a pay rise due to Turkey's 20 per cent tax rate for players in the Super Lig.
Onana was omitted from the United squad to face Arsenal, despite having three training sessions under his belt.
He was then named on the bench for Premier League games against Fulham and Burnley. He did face Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup and was at fault for their second goal.
United completed the £18.2million (plus add-ons) signing of Lammens from Royal Antwerp on the final day of the summer window, which pushed Onana further down the pecking order.
On deadline day, club sources were unable to clarify how Lammens' arrival would impact the goalkeeper hierarchy, but a decision has now been made to ship out Onana to Turkey.
Onana made high-profile mistakes against Nottingham Forest, Viktoria Plzen and Lyon last season, and he clashed with Nemanja Matic on the eve of facing Lyon in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.
Matic said Onana is "one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United history" at a press conference. The midfielder added Onana needed to "take care" of what he had been talking about.
Onana responded on social media, writing: "I would never be disrespectful to another club. We know that tomorrow will be a difficult game against a strong opponent.
"We focus on preparing a performance to make our fans proud. At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same."
The Turkish transfer window does not close until Friday, September 12.
