Arsenal‘Willing To Offload’Attacker Klopp Dubbed The“Talent Of The Century”For£60m In January

Arsenal are reportedly willing to sell winger Gabriel Martinelli in the January transfer window for around £60 million.

The Gunners are coming out of the international break having won two of their three opening games, with the most recent match being a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. Mikel Arteta will hope to get back to winning ways against Nottingham Forest this weekend, who will have a new manager following the surprise sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo on Tuesday morning.

Arteta made significant improvements to his squad over the summer, especially in wide areas, as he signed both Noni Madueke from Chelsea, and Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace. The additions have placed Gabriel Martinelli’s future in doubt, with the Brazilian winger less guaranteed to start every week.

Martinelli was linked to Bayern Munich during the transfer window, but it seemed as though there was no concrete approach, and Arsenal decided to keep hold of the Brazil international. However, it now seems that there could be a change of heart at the Emirates.

Arsenal ‘willing to offload’ Martinelli

Following the additions of both Madueke and Eze, it looks less likely that Arsenal will extend Martinelli’s contract past 2027, when it is due to expire, especially considering Martinelli’s lack of consistent form over the last year.

According to TeamTalk, this has prompted the Gunners to change their opinion, as they are now reportedly ‘willing to offload’ the winger in the January transfer window, and have set an asking price of around £60m.

The report says that Bayern’s interest cooled after they signed Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, but there is increasing interest from AC Milan, who are looking for a replacement for Rafael Leao who’s future is uncertain at the Italian club.

Would it be a mistake for the Gunners to sell Martinelli?

The winger has received a lot of criticism for overplaying, and slowing attacks down when on the ball, but his talent is undeniable. During his time with the Gunners, Martinelli has made 227 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 51 goals, and providing 29 assists.

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was always a big fan of the winger. He was quoted by Liverpool’s official website back when Martinelli was coming through at Arsenal aged 18, handing him the highest praise.

Klopp said: “He’s a talent of the century, he’s an incredible striker”. However, his high potential hasn’t completely come to fruition, despite the fact that he can be considered a good Premier League winger; He can’t be called one of the best in the world.
