Aston Villa are one of three Premier League clubs interested in Dani Vivian, according to a report in Spain.

Website Fichajes claims Villa, Newcastle United and Manchester United are all keen on the Athletic Bilbao centre back and that they see the 26-year-old as an opportunity to add to their squads ‘without lengthy transfer negotiations’.

That’s because the story cites a €40million release clause in Vivian’s contract and they project that he could make a move either in January or next summer.

It is said he has ‘proven himself in major competitions’ and that he is well suited to the physicality of the English game.

Dani Vivian moved to Athletic Club as a youngster in 2016 and has come through the set-up to play 152 first team games, including all three this season. He has also made nine appearances for Spain. He has won the Copa del Rey and Euro 2024 at club and international level.

Villa were reluctant to pay big transfer fees this summer, with Premier League and Uefa financial regulations limiting their room to manoeuvre in the transfer market. They are already committed to paying £35m for Harvey Elliott next summer.

Unai Emery is seemingly well-stocked in central defence, with Ezri Konsa, Pau Torres, and Tyrone Mings recently joined by free agent Victor Lindelof.
