Former Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has paid tribute to ex-team-mate Bruno Fernandes with a touching social media post. Garnacho joined Chelsea this summer for £40million after falling out of favour under Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.
After training on his own for the majority of the summer, the 21-year-old sought pastures new at Stamford Bridge. However, his latest social media post shows he still has great respect for Fernandes.
Taking to Instagram, Garnacho posted a picture of him celebrating with the United captain, writing underneath: "Thanks for everything you did for me I love you [kiss emoji]."
The Argentinian endured a rocky final few months at Old Trafford. A breakdown in relations between player and club reached a tipping point after the winger publicly questioned Amorim's decision to bench him for the Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur in May, with Garnacho only coming on in the second half of the 1-0 defeat in Bilbao.
His latest message to Fernandes comes years after the Portuguese star once claimed that Garnacho didn't "have the best attitude" when he first broke through from the United academy, demonstrating just how Fernandes helped nurture the young star.
Speaking in November 2022, after Garnacho scored the winning goal in a Europa League group stage game against Real Sociedad, Fernandes told BT Sport: "He was good but he knows we expect a lot from him. He’s still really young, doing really well.
“At the beginning of the season, he was not at his best. On the [pre-season] tour he did not have the best attitude. That’s why he didn’t get his chance until now. He’s getting his chances because he’s training better, he’s having the correct attitude."
However, it seems Garnacho grew into his role in United's first team and upon leaving, not only did he offer a personalised goodbye to Fernandes, but to the club in general. "Dear Mánchester. After an unforgettable five years, this special chapter in my life now comes to a close," he wrote on social media.

He posted a message to his former team-mate on Instagram
"We have created moments that will stay with me forever, and I’m very grateful for this. To the coaches, staff, and my team-mates, thank you for believing in me. Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had.
"I leave proud of what we achieved together and excited for what’s to come. Wishing the club nothing but success for the future, while I look forward to giving my all in the next chapter of my career."
Garnacho has been left out of the Argentina squad for the current international break so Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will be hoping that he can build his fitness over the next few weeks.
However, those expecting the winger to have an instant impact at Stamford Bridge might have to wait after he missed the bulk of pre-season with United. Although he could be in line for his debut this weekend with Chelsea taking on Brentford away from home on Saturday evening.
Such is his condition at present, speaking after his first training session with the Blues, Garnacho revealed he was already feeling the effects of being back in action. Speaking to a member of the Blues’ media team, he said: “Can’t move my legs now man."
