Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave impressed in his first game with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday.
During the Vikings’ comeback 27-24 win, Hargrave was a key member of the Minnesota defense who helped propel their defensive line to multiple impact plays. Hargrave notched the Vikings’ first sack of the night, backing up Caleb Williams and setting the Vikings offense up with great field position.
He would double up later, earning his second sack of the game, while adding two more quarterback hits. For someone known as a pass rushing defensive tackle, Hargrave earned that reputation and more in his first game with the team.
Hargrave signed a four-year, $84 million deal in the 2023 offseason, but Hargrave’s injuries forced the 49ers to cut bait with him this offseason, allowing him to be free and join the Vikings.
Hargrave has played for the Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, and 49ers, where he has posted impressive numbers as an interior defensive lineman throughout his career. The Steelers drafted him in the 2016 NFL Draft out of South Carolina State and played him as a nose tackle.
When he left Pittsburgh, he became a true defensive tackle, working as a 3-technique more than anything else. In three games this season, he had one sack and three tackles for the 49ers.
Hargrave has racked up 46.5 career sacks and two Pro Bowl nods during his time with the Eagles
