Paul Scholes rules out Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s powerful influence over one major Man Utd decision, ‘I’m not sure…’

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has insisted that he thinks Sir Jim Ratcliffe will have no major say over one key decision at Old Trafford under the Ineos-run regime.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe became the co-owner of Premier League side Manchester United after the Ineos chief agreed to secure a minority stake in the Red Devils in 2023.

The 72-year-old British billionaire originally secured a 25 per cent stake in United, which was ratified by the Football Association (FA) and Premier League in 2024.

Ratcliffe purchased his stake at United for a whopping £1.03bn, with the boyhood Red Devils supporter’s Ineos team taking control of football operations at the club.

The United co-owner’s part-acquisition of the 13-time Premier League champions included a hefty £236m to be used in the future investment of Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe has been able to increase his stake in United since the initial deal, with the Ineos boss now owning 28.94 per cent after his £79.43m investment last December.

Paul Scholes makes his feelings clear on Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos amid debate around one Man Utd talking point

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has had his Ineos team involved behind the scenes at Manchester United in the Premier League club’s hierarchy after his minority stake purchase.

He has come under the spotlight for the decisions made at Old Trafford, including the raising of United ticket prices and cutting staff amid the cost-cutting measures.

Paul Scholes appeared on The Overlap and the United legend listened in on the debate around the decision to stick with Ruben Amorim until the end of the season.

While it was debated in The Overlap audience that Ratcliffe would not axe Ruben Amorim ‘due to his influence,’ Scholes was in full disagreement over the idea.

“I’m not sure Ratcliffe gets involved that much,” the former United and England midfielder responded.

“I think he just leaves it to the people he’s got in charge.”

It was revealed back in March that United would increase ticket prices for Red Devils fans for the third consecutive year ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

Amid the backlash around ticket prices and Ineos’ cost-cutting spree, Ratcliffe admitted that he was not involved with what the management did at United.

“Well, I don’t get involved in the detail of ticket pricing,” he told BBC Sport in March.

“That’s for the management of the club, not for me really.

“My sort of general principles on ticket pricing are that it should be fair, affordable for the people in Manchester.”

United will return to action in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, with the Red Devils’ first clash in the post-international break being against Manchester City.
