Chris Sutton slaps down Henry Winter's 'nonsense' about Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou and…

Celtic fans are well used to English journalists looking down their noses at Ange Postecoglou’s achievements at the Parkhead club.

Postecoglou was subjected to all sorts of vitriol in the English media after he moved from Celtic to Tottenham with much of it coming in his final season at the club.

However, even after winning the Europa League with Spurs, Celtic hero Postecoglou was still sacked by the London club.

The former Celtic manager is now on the brink of a Premier League return as Postecoglou takes on the Nottingham Forest job this season.

And after hearing what was said about the Celtic legend by Henry Winter, Chris Sutton slapped down the respected journalist on social media this afternoon.

Celtic icon Ange Postecoglou is ‘not an upgrade on Nuno Espirito Santo’

Winter is hugely respected within the journalistic world but it appears he has a bee in his bonnet about Nottingham Forest turning to Postecoglou as their next manager.

Winter said on X, “Ange Postecoglou is not an upgrade on Nuno Espírito Santo. Nuno improved Forest players.

“How many Spurs players did Postecoglou improve? Angeball, high line, occasionally high and calamitous, is also different to Nuno’s counterattacking style, so Forest players will have to adjust.

“If the former Spurs manager is appointed in time he should get a lively reception at his first Forest game – away to Arsenal.

“Postecoglou has to hit the ground running, finish 7th minimum and learn from Nuno’s mistake (deliberate or otherwise) and not talk about his owner in public. No pressure. Good luck to him but it’s a gamble.”

Indeed, this is not the first time Celtic fans have heard this nonsense about Ange as his achievements at Celtic and Spurs were completely whitewashed by Winter.

And Sutton was quick to slap this down.

Chris Sutton slams Henry Winter’s ‘very short sighted’ comments on Celtic legend Postecoglou

Sutton responded on X as he once again defended Postecoglou’s managerial record from another journalist bashing.

Sutton said, “A lot of nonsense in here Henry… they both have different ways of playing that’s all… but to go down the who’s better route and to not recognise Ange Postecoglou’s achievements throughout his career is very short-sighted…”

Ange has won multiple trophies in various countries including Japan, Australia, Scotland and England.

And let’s not forget winning the Asian Cup with Australia in 2015. The point that Sutton is making is very valid as Postecoglou once again prepares himself for more of this kind of vitriol as he takes on another job in England.
