Mason Jones is leaving the NBA to play overseas a year after leading the Stockton Kings to the G League championship.
The Perth Wildcats of Australia’s National Basketball League announced Sunday that they have signed Jones to a one-year deal. Jones, a 27-year-old guard who was named G League Finals MVP in 2025, spent the past two seasons as a two-way player in the Sacramento Kings organization.
Jones is the second Kings free agent in the past week to leave the NBA to join an international power. His departure comes days after veteran forward Trey Lyles agreed to a deal with Real Madrid, which has won 38 Spanish league championships and 11 EuroLeague titles.
Jones could be a big addition for Perth, which has won a record 10 NBL championships. Jones didn’t get much of an opportunity to prove himself as an NBA player in Sacramento, but he put up phenomenal numbers in Stockton.
Jones appeared in only 15 games for Sacramento over the past two seasons, averaging 2.0 points, 0.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists while shooting 42.3% from the field and 20% from 3-point range. In the G League last season, Jones averaged 23.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 7.8 assists while shooting 44.7% from 3-point range on 8.4 attempts per game.
Jones was named finals MVP after leading Stockton to the G League championship in 2024-25, marking a high point in his carer after going undrafted out of Arkansas in 2020.
Jones landed two-way contracts with the Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers organizations before finding a home with the Kings in 2023. Jones became a fan favorite as an energetic player who enthusiastically cheered for teammates, but Sacramento had no room for him in a backcourt that already features Dennis Schroder, Zach LaVine, Malik Monk, Keon Ellis, Devin Carter and Nique Clifford.
