Evangelos Marinakis justifies his decision to sack Nuno and appoint Ange Postecoglou at…

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Ange Postecoglou to replace the outgoing Nuno Espirito Santo.

The experienced head coach has been unveiled hours after it was announced Espirito Santo had left the club after almost two years in charge at the City Ground.

Evangelos Marinakis was set for talks with Espirito Santo during the international break, but that never transpired, and instead the rift proved beyond repair.

Espirito Santo had a bust-up with Edu shortly after the Head of Football Operations had arrived at the club, with the departed head coach wanting Adama Traore to be signed.

Now, Postecoglou checks in on Trentside, looking to take the club to the next level, with Europa League football on the cards for the Reds this season.

Evangelos Marinakis speaks after Ange Postecoglou appointed

The news nobody wanted to hear is now the reality, and Postecoglou is the new Forest head coach.

Fans will have to park their opinions and simply back the team, with a big game on the horizon against Arsenal this weekend.

After making the decision to appoint Postecoglou, Marinakis has explained why he’s decided to turn to the 60-year-old head coach.

He said on the club’s official website: “We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies. His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.

“After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies. Ange has the credentials and the track record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey.”

Postecoglou must now prove Forest fans wrong

Interestingly, Postecoglou is a head coach, so that suggests that much like Espirito Santo, he will have little say when it comes to which players get signed.

It’s the work he did with Tottenham that provides a real worry, however, with Postecoglou losing 22 of the 38 games they played in the Premier League last season, including two against Forest.

Okay, Postecoglou did win the Europa League with Spurs, but in reality, the run they had to the final made it almost impossible for the Londoners not to win it.

Forest fans will show loyalty to Postecoglou and keep selling tickets, but if wins aren’t forthcoming and this tenure is a carbon copy of his Tottenham chapter, then things could turn sour very quickly.
