• He arrives with experience and trophies behind him
Ange Postecoglou is the new Head Coach of Nottingham Forest after being appointed this afternoon.
He arrives on Trentside with a raft of footballing experience around the world, including in England, on the continent, and in Scotland, where he has won titles.
As a player, Postecoglou spent his career in Australia, being coached by the great Ferenc Puskás during his time with South Melbourne Hellas. He represented the Socceroos on four occasions between 1986 and 1988, before retiring from professional football due to injury at the age of 27.
His first foray into coaching came in 1996, when he was named permanent Head Coach of South Melbourne following a caretaker spell and time on the coaching staff.
He led the side to back-to-back National Soccer League titles before departing to take up the role with the Australian youth sides in 2000.
The 60-year-old won a further two A-League Championships during a near three-year spell with Brisbane Roar before taking over as Head Coach of the Australia National Team in 2013.
During his time in charge of the Socceroos, Postecoglou guided the nation to successive FIFA World Cup finals in 2014 and 2018, and to their first-ever AFC Asian Cup with a 2-1 victory over South Korea in the 2015 final.
After leaving Australia in 2017, and following a three-year spell in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan, Postecoglou became the first Australian coach to take charge of a major European team when he joined Scottish giants Celtic.
His time in Glasgow brought with it a host of trophies, with the 60-year-old winning successive Scottish Premiership titles and Scottish League Cup crowns, alongside the Scottish Cup in 2022/23 as part of a treble-winning campaign.
His successes north of the border prompted Tottenham Hotspur to appoint him as their Head Coach in 2023. He guided the North London side back into European competition in his first season and won the Manager of the Year award at the London Football Awards in 2024.
His second campaign at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw him end Spurs’ 17-year wait for a trophy and secure their first European trophy since 1983/84, when the Lilywhites overcame Manchester United in the final of the competition in May.
Postecoglou arrives on Trentside with a host of footballing experience and trophies behind him as the Club’s ambitious journey continues.
