Ruben Amorim to get new chance at revenge after his most crushing Manchester United moment

Ruben Amorim endured a miserable first season as Manchester United head coach but 2025/26 can be a campaign for redemption and revenge.

Hired in November last year, Ruben Amorim was tasked with completely overhauling Manchester United’s style of play midway through a busy campaign.

United fans stuck by Amorim despite having to watch their team finish 15th in the Premier League. On the final day of the season, Amorim promised ‘good days are coming’.

The Portuguese head coach did have an opportunity to lift silverware in his debut season, but a crushing 1-0 defeat in the Europa League final only added to United’s misery.

That defeat changed the entire course of this current season, with United now completely out of Europe. It is up to Amorim to return the Red Devils to Europe, and he can get some sweet revenge on the way.

Ruben Amorim can avenge Europa League final this season

Amorim offered to leave United after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham, but Ineos stuck by him and supported him over the summer.

A mixed start to the season has left United ninth in the Premier League table after three games, but Amorim will have his sights set on European qualification.

Sitting just below United in the table is Nottingham Forest, who have recently sacked manager Nuno Espirito Santo following a fallout with the board.

Amorim won’t have too long to wait either – United travel to face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on November 1.

Ruben Amorim outclassed Ange Postecoglou in Europa League final

It was Postecoglou who lifted the trophy in Bilbao in May, but Amorim must have been wondering what more he could have done.

United boasted 73% possession, had 16 shots while Tottenham only had three and one on target. Amorim set up his side to dominate that match, but he was let down by a lack of quality from his players in the final third.

It explains why Amorim was so desperate to overhaul his attacking department in the summer. He cut a frustrated figure watching his players miss countless opportunities last season.

Despite dominating the match, Amorim’s tactics in the final were questioned, but the Portuguese has stuck to his word and kept to his 3-4-2-1 system in 2025-26.

Already, United are topping the statistical charts in the Premier League this season, but Amorim needs his players to deliver in the final third.
