Eagles just made surprising trade for talented RB who could be a bargain

The Eagles made a big move on Monday night, trading 2026 fifth and sixth-round NFL Draft picks to the Jacksonville Jaguars for running back Tank Bigsby, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This is a surprising trade considering the Eagles already have two good backups (Will Shipley and AJ Dillon). But the trade could indicate that Shipley could be out for an extended period. He suffered a rib injury during the Eagles’ 24-20 win over the Cowboys on Thursday and did not return.

Bigsby could be an upgrade over Shipley and Dillon. He rushed for 766 yards and seven touchdowns last season, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. The former Jaguars RB is a solid rotational back who is capable of starting games in the NFL.

Jacksonville selected Bigbsy in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He formed a solid one-two punch with Travis Etienne.

After the Jaguars took RB Bhayshul Tuten in the fourth round this past spring, Bigsby’s role diminished. He had five carries for 12 yards in Jacksonville’s win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Bigsby started at Auburn for three seasons and was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Year in 2020. He struggled during his rookie season with the Jaguars but turned things around last year.

The Eagles could use Bigsby on kickoffs. He averaged 32.5 yards per attempt in 2024, with his longest going for 41.
