'We must take right step': Marinakis reacts as Forest confirm Postecoglou appointment

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has claimed that the "right step" is being taken in replacing Nuno Espirito Santo with Ange Postecoglou.

Late on Monday night, Forest confirmed that Nuno had been sacked, a consequence of the well-documented breakdown of his relationship with Marinakis and recently-appointed sporting director Edu Gaspar.

A brief 80-word statement officially brought an end to the Portuguese's time at the City Ground and Forest have taken barely fewer than 13 hours to confirm Postecoglou as his successor.

The Greek-Australian is back in work just months after being removed from his role at Tottenham Hotspur, despite lifting the Europa League trophy several weeks beforehand.

Despite losing 39 of his 101 matches at the Tottenham Hotspur, Marinakis has talked up Postecoglou's record for delivering silverware.

Speaking to the club's official website, Marinakis feels that Postecoglou has the "credentials" to deliver on the ambitions of everyone associated with the Tricky Trees.

He said: "We are bringing a coach to the club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies.

"His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.

"After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies.

"Ange has the credentials and the track-record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey."

What next for Postecoglou and Forest?

First up for Postecoglou is**a trip to the home of Spurs' fiercest rivals Arsenal**on September 13 in what is sure to be a hostile introduction to life as Forest boss.

Unusually, the first four games of his tenure are all away from home, something which may suit Marinakis given the indifferent reaction that he has received for sacking Nuno.

Trips to Swansea City, Burnley and Real Betis are all on the schedule before the first City Ground appearance for Postecoglou against Sunderland on September 27.
